Causes Of Depression - From The Inside Out

Let there be no doubt that depression is a serious mental illness that sometimes requires months and years of treatment on the road to a cure
. Millions of Americans across the United States are affected by depression each and every year. Only about a third of them will seek treatment, and that makes it worse.

Depression has always been classified as a mental affliction. Therefore, many Americans choose not to be placed into that category. Instead of being considered mentally ill, people try to manage the problem themselves. Depression is more common- place than you might think and it will not go away on its own.

Causes of Depression
So, what causes depression? The answer can get very complicated because you have to take many factors into consideration. There are so many things factored into the cause of this disease.

Let’s list a few of the contributing factors to depression. Brain chemicals being out of proportion contributes strongly to depression. Why does this chemical problem in the brain happen? Generally the causes are internal – biological issues, genetic disposition, mental problems – but there are external causes as well.

Doctors sometimes don’t find the root cause, which is true for many patients. If diagnosis of another serious medical condition happens, sometimes people become depressed.

Another cause of depression can be the emotional pain felt after losing a loved one. In many cases the loss can be very traumatic. Long periods of emotional, sexual or other physical abuses can result in depression. When people abuse drugs and/or alcohol the result is often depression.

Depression can result from stress. In our lives many events and elements can cause stress. Even positive events such as a marriage, a new baby or winning an award can cause stress.

People tend to stress when they face the unknown, like a new job or new financial obligations. In addition, many are stressed from personal conflicts with their loved ones, associates in employment or friends. There are a great number of people who are stressed from simply trying to perform their jobs to satisfaction and trying to support their families from week to week.
